The emblem, also called the weapon, is composed of several specific parts forming together the symbol of our pencak silat style.
Jokotole
This is the name of a legendary Madurese popular hero who lived some six hundred years ago. Ever since his childhood Jokotole undergoes many adventures in which he defeats his ennemies by his fighting skills, his wisdom and his use of magic. He frees Madura from the Chinese and Balinese and the people choose him as the sovereign of their island.
The Whipe
Jokotoles magical whip was one of the attributes he used to conquer the Chinese magic sovereign. In the popular Madurese bullfights these whips are still used. This has made the whip the symbol of the identity of the Madurese people.
The gate
This heavenly gate represents the pupils pursuit of perfection of spirit and body. The gate is very important in one of Jokotoles adventures. Jokotole can only reach his goal by total sacrifice.
The Stairs
To reach perfection the pupil must pass through five stages (steps). Each stage has its own colour. The belt the pupil wears indicates his stage of development. The five steps correspond to the five senses. The sixth step leads to perfection.
Wicaksana
The free translation of this old Sanskrit saying is ‘together we are strong’. It expresses the mutual solidarity between the pupils and the school.
Perguruan Olah Raga Silat
This means ‘Academy for physical development in pencak silat’. Because the Jokotole as a style played an important role in the development of the present pencak silat in Indonesia, it is one of the few to have the status of Academy.
