About the Jokotole Naga Putih Haarlem

In 1976 Paul Rovers started with Pencak Silat. He trained in Schalkwijk with mr. Dirk en Gerrit Philipo. In 1983 he started to train a small group in Rijsenhout together with Rolf Kalwij.

A good friend of Paul brought him in contact with Glenn Pennock. During that year, Glenn had trained for the first time in Indonesia (Madura) and after a few trainings, Paul and Rolf decided to join the Jokotole Naga Putih of Glenn Pennock. The training was given in the Kolkstraat in Haarlem.

In 1986 Paul went to Madura for the first time to train with the Jokotole Naga Putih. Directly afterwards he opened his own Cabang (school) in Haarlem.

During the first few years the training was given in the gymnastics hall of the HTS in Haarlem. This hall unfortunately had to make way for extra classrooms and in accordance with the municipality of Haarlem the Jokotole Naga Putih could train in the gymnastics hall on the Gedempte Voldersgracht. In 1994 Paul bought the premises in the Kolkstraat in Haarlem and together with the students the former shop was converted to a training hall. The main school of the Jokotole Naga Putih is still located here.

From 1986 untill now the Jokotole Naga Putih have given a lot of demonstrations at home and abroad. Also, several students won Dutch championships in both matches and style matches. The highlight was in 2001 when 5 students of the Jokotole Naga Putih enrolled in the World Championships in Penang (Malaysia). Three of them won third place in the category synchronized walking.

Paul Rovers still journeys with his students to train at the main school in Madura. Where the training is still experienced as an unforgettable adventure experience by his students.
